Frequently asked questions

Is CoderKit free?

Yes, it is. We may introduce a paid version later, but we will keep the free version forever and guarantee it meets most of your needs. So you will never be forced to pay.

Do I need API keys or any subscriptions to use CoderKit?

Yes, either Codeium or GitHub Copilot subscription is required to use CoderKit. But you have complete control over subscription usage within the app’s settings, and can sign out those subscriptions any time. The token keys are securely stored locally on your device and are solely utilized for connecting to the Codeium or GitHub Copilot API.

Does CoderKit require any other permissions?

Yes, folder access permission is needed too.

How about privacy and security?

Currently CoderKit doesn’t have its own API server at all. All the communicaiton is with Codeium or GitHub Copilot APIs. We may a server later to host different LLM models but it will never store any user code or sensitive information. Welcome to scan CoderKit with Charles proxy or mitmproxy. Does CoderKit require access to accessibility features?

Yes, CoderKit requires access to accessibility features. Please note that the accessibility features in this app are solely used to extract and insert content from/to Xcode.

Is it open source?

Not yet. We are working hard to develop new features right now and have not got a chance to make that decision. We do get inspired a lot from open source community as stated here and want to contribute back. That’s part of the reason we make it free.
